Most of European buildings are poorly insulated and consume a considerable amount of energy for heating and cooling. According to a recent study by the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, we should renovate at least 3% of the building stock each year in order to mitigate the effects of climate change on our cities and reach the decarbonisation targets for 2050.

INFINITE proposes a ground-breaking approach based on robust and reliable technologies and methodologies that will unleash the potential of prefabrication in the construction sector and pave the way to decarbonisation.

The Renovation4.0 concept consists in coupling industrialisation and digitalisation to offer tailor-made, eco-compatible, affordable, and cost-effective retrofit solutions. INFINITE products and actions integrate a life-cycle perspective to improve all phases of the renovation process from design to end of life. Adaptable Building Management Systems (BMS) will help users control and optimise the performance of the single components, as well as the whole building.

INFINITE will activate the market for industrialised renovation by strengthening the demand-side and facilitating the matching with the industry. A online knowledge hub will be created to host open databases of products, solutions and best practice examples of renovation, an interactive market potential map, and a search and match engine for planners, architects, designers and builders.

INFINITE will foster the identification of an Observatory for Industrialised Deep Retrofit (IDR) as a recognised platform to put under the spotlight efforts and world-wide experiences for a low carbon building stock renovation.

Expected results

  • multi-user and multidisciplinary design tools
  • all-in-one industrialised eco-envelope kits
  • adaptable managing systems
  • interactive search and match platform
  • European Observatory for the Industrialised Deep Renovation (IDR)
